PEAT stands for Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy Training.

It is an educational framework for exploring the relationships between the body, mind, emotions, behaviour, energy and lived experience.

Rather than teaching you to look at one characteristic and decide what it means, PEAT teaches you to observe the whole person — noticing relationships between posture, structure, movement, breath, expression, emotion, behaviour and experience.

You can study PEAT entirely for your own personal development or continue through the professional pathway towards becoming a Certified Psychosomatic Therapist using the PEAT Method.

Psychosomatic Therapy explores the relationship between our physical body and the way we think, feel, behave, communicate and experience life.

Within PEAT, we learn to observe how these relationships may be expressed through the face, hands, feet, posture, structure, breath, movement, emotional patterns and behaviour.

The aim is not to diagnose someone from their body or decide what a physical characteristic means. It is to become a more skilled observer of the whole human being.

Emotional Anatomy explores the relationship between emotional experience and the way we inhabit, move and express ourselves through the body.

We look at how emotion may influence breath, posture, movement, expression, behaviour, communication and the ways we respond to ourselves, other people and our environment.

Within PEAT, Emotional Anatomy is not taught separately from the body and mind. We explore the relationships between them.

You do not need a background in therapy, personal development, bodywork or healthcare to begin the Foundation Program.

PEAT is designed to introduce the principles progressively, beginning with observation and your own experience before asking you to apply the work professionally.

Yes.

You do not need to become a practitioner to study PEAT.

Many students begin because they are curious about themselves, their body, emotional patterns, relationships or the way they experience life.

The Foundation Program is designed first and foremost as a personal learning experience.

You can complete Foundation and stop there, continue into the 6-Day In-Person Training for a more embodied experience, or choose to continue towards professional certification.

Professional training also begins with the Foundation Program.

We believe that before learning to observe or work with another person, it is important to experience the principles of Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy through yourself.

Yes. The 6-Day In-Person Training can be attended as a standalone personal experience or as part of the PEAT pathway.

If you are pursuing professional certification, the Foundation Program and other certification requirements will also need to be completed.

The Foundation Program is the first level of PEAT and introduces you to the principles of Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy through a structured online learning journey.

Across nine modules, you explore areas including Psychosomatics, the body, personal history, Emotional Anatomy, the face, hands, feet, behaviour, relationships and the ways we adapt through life.

The program includes more than 300 recorded lessons, a Self-Reflective Learning Journal, body maps, exercises and supporting resources, together with opportunities for live learning and support.

You receive lifetime access to the recorded Foundation Program material.

Yes.

You can move through the recorded Foundation material in your own time and return to it as often as you need.

There are also live teaching and support opportunities alongside the recorded program, giving you the option to learn independently while remaining connected to the PEAT teaching community.

No.

We encourage you to attend live when you can because hearing questions, observations and experiences from other students adds another dimension to the learning.

However, we understand that attendance at every call isn't always possible.

Live training calls are recorded and made available to students. Support calls are not recorded, allowing them to remain a more private space for questions and discussion.

You can begin the self-paced Foundation Program at any time.

Our live teaching runs in cohorts throughout the year, but you do not need to wait for the beginning of a new cohort to start learning.

If you join after a live series has begun, you can begin the recorded program and join the live learning as you are ready.

The 6-Day In-Person Training brings Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy out of the online learning environment and into direct experience.

You will explore observation, Body-Mind Analysis, Emotional Anatomy, face, hand, foot and body reading, energy, communication, touch and Emotional Release Bodywork.

You will observe, practise, receive the work yourself and experience how the different elements of PEAT come together when working with the whole person.

The training is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of six new students at each training.

PEAT currently offers in-person training in Melbourne, Australia and Basel, Switzerland, with additional locations planned for the future.

You will experience and learn Emotional Release Bodywork during the in-person training because touch and direct experience provide another way of understanding the body and its communication.

However, your future professional practice does not need to centre around bodywork.

The PEAT framework can be integrated in different ways depending on your existing skills, professional context and the way you choose to work with people.

The 6-Day In-Person Training includes experiential bodywork and appropriate therapeutic touch as part of the learning.

Consent, communication and personal boundaries are an important part of how this work is taught. You will always be encouraged to communicate your needs and participate within your own boundaries.

If you have concerns about participating in the bodywork component, we recommend speaking with us before attending so we can discuss the training with you.

On successful completion of all training, practical and assessment requirements, you receive:

A Certificate in Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy from PEAT, and

A Certificate in Psychosomatic Therapy through the Psychosomatic Therapy College.

You can then describe your professional qualification as:

Certified Psychosomatic Therapist using the PEAT Method.

No.

PEAT trains and certifies you in Psychosomatic Therapy and Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy. It does not qualify you as a psychologist, registered counsellor or other regulated health professional.

How you use your PEAT qualification professionally will also depend on your existing qualifications, professional scope, insurance requirements and the regulations that apply where you practise.

The complete professional pathway is designed to be completed over approximately two years.

This allows time not only to learn the material but to experience it personally, attend the in-person training, develop your practitioner skills and complete the required supervised practice and logbook work.

The pathway is intentionally progressive rather than condensed into a short practitioner course.

Students progressing through the professional pathway have up to two years to complete their required 6-Day In-Person Training.

Your in-person training and clinic days do not necessarily need to be completed in the same year.

Students pursuing Full Certification complete four supervised Clinic Days following their 6-Day In-Person Training.

Clinic Days provide an opportunity to begin applying what you have learned with people in a supervised environment.

You will practise observation, Body-Mind Analysis, Emotional Anatomy, communication and bodywork while receiving guidance and feedback from the PEAT teaching team.

Practitioner Development is where the focus begins to move from understanding the work through yourself to learning how to work appropriately with another person.

It includes six months of practitioner mentoring, case-study development, professional discussion, observation, feedback and support as you begin completing the practical requirements for certification.

The emphasis is not simply on learning more information. It is on developing your ability to observe, communicate, integrate the PEAT framework and discover how the work fits within your own professional practice.

As part of Full Certification, students complete a professional logbook demonstrating their developing ability to observe and apply the PEAT framework.

The logbook includes practical work across Lifestyle Consultation, Face Reading, Hand Analysis, Body-Mind Analysis, Emotional Anatomy, self-reflection and supervised bodywork.

You have 12 months to complete the logbook once you enter this stage of the pathway.

Yes.

Full Certification includes assessment through the Psychosomatic Therapy College. A separate College assessment/RPL fee applies and additional required units are completed directly through the College.

The current College fee is $1,250 AUD.

Yes, depending on your existing profession and scope of practice.

PEAT attracts people from a wide range of backgrounds, including therapists, bodyworkers, coaches, yoga teachers, allied health professionals, educators and people whose work involves understanding and communicating with others.

The intention is not necessarily to replace the way you already work.

For many practitioners, Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy provides another framework through which they can observe and understand the person in front of them.

Support is an important part of PEAT.

Depending on the pathway you are completing, you may have access to live teaching, support calls, the PEAT student community, practitioner mentoring and opportunities to ask questions and explore what you are learning with the teaching team.

The aim is to give you the flexibility of self-paced learning without leaving you to navigate the work entirely on your own.

PEAT was founded by Gillian Maddigan and Bianca Moeschinger, who remain its core teachers.

As PEAT grows, students will also learn from experienced Psychosomatics & Emotional Anatomy teachers who bring different professional experience and perspectives to the same foundational body of work.

We deliberately teach through more than one perspective because we don't want students simply memorising someone else's interpretation.

We want you to develop your own ability to observe, question and understand.

PEAT has its foundations in the Psychosomatic Therapy work developed and taught by Hermann Müller through the Psychosomatic Therapy College.

Gillian Maddigan was introduced to this work by Hermann, her father, in 1993 and later trained and worked alongside him through the College.

PEAT continues to teach these foundations while bringing them together with Emotional Anatomy, embodied learning, extensive online education, Emotional Release Bodywork and the clinical and teaching experience Gillian and Bianca have developed over many years.

The foundations are respected, while the way the work is taught continues to evolve.

Yes. PEAT is currently taught in English, including the online programs, live calls and in-person training in Australia and Switzerland.
